Summer Aid

Need help covering summer courses? DU offers Summer Financial Aid to eligible students who complete the Summer Aid Application below, available beginning April 2025. Aid amounts depend on remaining federal eligibility and possible DU Summer Grants, which vary based on enrollment hours. While summer aid won’t fully cover tuition, enrolling in at least four units keeps you eligible.

Schedule an appointment with your academic advisor to explore your financial aid options and plan your summer experience. Don’t miss out —plan ahead and make summer work for you!

The summer aid application will be available in April 2025.

Types of Summer Aid Available

  • Institutional Aid

Institutional aid eligibility is determined by your expected enrollment as well as the information provided on your FAFSA and CSS Profile. If you're an undergraduate student enrolled in a DU degree program, you'll receive a summer grant comparable to the amount of merit- and need-based funding you received each quarter during the academic year.

  • Federal Aid and Loans

In order to receive federal aid for the summer term, you must have submitted a FAFSA and be enrolled in at least 6 credits. If you're enrolled in less than six credits, you may apply for private loans only. We'll offer any Federal Direct loan or Pell grant for which you are eligible.

Summer is considered the last term of the academic year. Therefore, your eligibility for Direct loans will depend on what you already received in the fall, winter, and spring quarters. Your eligibility for a summer Pell grant will depend on your 2024-25 and 2025-26 FAFSA (if submitted).

Parent PLUS Loans: Parents of dependent students who are enrolled in at least six credits may borrow a Parent PLUS loan to help finance the cost of the summer term. The application is available online through StudentAid.gov. Parents must pass a credit check or have a credit-worthy endorser in order to receive this loan.

Private Education Loans: If you're enrolled in less than six credits for the summer quarter, you can apply for a private education loan directly with the lender of your choice. Learn more >>

  • Work-Study

If you have been offered work-study for the 2025-26 academic year, you may begin working as early as July 1, 2025.

Other work opportunities are available for students seeking employment over the summer. Visit the Student Employment website or contact the office at stuemp@lcsgxgy.com for more information.
